The short "Hackensack Locals" article mentions
George C. Mercer, Jr. of Prospect Avenue being released from the Navy and resuming his studies at Rutgers College. 

The name Mercer comes up on many old Hackensack records and events.  There is a street named "Mercer" in Hackensack . I do not know if it is named after him, his father, or some relative, or just someone with the same name as of May 2010.
